What is a Functional Nurse?

What do you do?

I work with clients to help solve a variety of problems. Together we will identify your concerns, form goals, and create a plan to get you there. I will be a support to you on your health journey. I provide health topic education, information, and the confidence to help you take charge of your well-being. My goal is to help clients get and stay healthy so they can stay out of that system and create a life that aligns with their values and beliefs.

“It is often thought that medicine is the curative process. It is no such thing; medicine is the surgery of functions, as surgery proper is that of limbs and organs. Neither can do anything but remove obstructions; neither can cure; nature alone cures. Surgery removes the bullet out of the limb, which is an obstruction to cure, but nature heals the wound. So it is with medicine; the function of an organ becomes obstructed; medicine, so far as we know, assists nature to remove the obstruction, but does nothing more. And what nursing has to do in either case, is to put the patient in the best condition for nature to act upon him.”

What do the studies say?

This one says people working with coaches had “statistically significant effects on HbA1c decreases, BMI reductions, physical activity increases, dietary fat reductions, and self-efficacy improvements when compared with inactive controls”

About Your Nurse

Stephanie Yates, BSN, RN-BC

I come from a long line of nurses. I started my career in healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant, graduated with my BS in Nursing and prior to questioning everything in healthcare was an assistant nurse manager and clinical lead on night shift within a large healthcare system in New York. I have a diverse background encompassing medical-surgical, travel, school, psych & addictions, home infusion, and postpartum nursing. I've always leaned more towards the natural side of things and really started digging into the studies and data starting in 2020.

The current healthcare system is not patient-centered. A mass production system is running our healthcare. This system is modeled after a manufacturing plant with sub-specialties and often lacks insight into the whole picture. My goal is to help clients get and stay healthy so they can stay out of that system and create a life that aligns with their values and beliefs. Hippocrates is named “the father of modern medicine” and I want to help take healthcare back to the basics of diet, lifestyle, and environment.

If you are interested in avoiding the sick-care system and optimizing wellness, I'm your nurse and I'd love to connect!
